Welcome - About Live and Loud!

Live and Loud! began as a fortnightly internet radio show in 2012 taking old unreleased live concert recordings I could find and working to repair and improve them - fixing tape hiss, noise, tape drop out, clicks, speed variations, defects - before improving the sound quality by EQing the sound to bring out the instruments as clearly as possible. These are now made directly available to download for free to reach as many fans of the music as possible.

Depending on the quality of the original recording, these can often be made to sound almost like commercial recordings - but of course I can't guarantee that for every show. What I can guarantee is it will sound far better than the original files available which have been floating around the internet and on bootleg recordings for many years.

Almost all are either "soundboard" recordings (taken directly from the mixing desk used at the gig on the night) or old FM radio recordings. A few gigs, if they are of special historical importance, make an appearance even if they were recorded from the audience - these can also be made to sound better than ever.

Do your ears a favour and listen on headphones or good speakers to get most benefit - laptop speakers will always sound pretty poor by comparison.

All shows still available are listed, including a link to download the remastered show for free. If you want to support the site with a small donation, you can receive the shows as either separate MP3s or FLACs (your choice) - head over to the Rewards for Donations page and see how you can get a lot for very little!

If you want to email me, an email link is in my profile in a link in the side panel.

And finally... These are great fun to listen to but DO NOT replace original releases - support these artists and buy their music.
There is nothing you can go and buy in a regular record store here. If a gig is made available as a regular release, then it will be removed (as a couple have been already).

Show 64 - Big Country - Live at Opry House, Austin Texas - 22 March 1984

This show is Big Country from their tour of the USA in early 1984. They’d released their debut album The Crossing, in July 1983 and their latest single, Wonderland, had just been released a couple of months before this date in January 1984. You’ll hear that and most of The Crossing in this set, originally recorded for NBC radio in the USA. They spent over a month in America and then played a few dates in Japan before heading home and recording what became their first number 1 album, SteelTown, released in October 1984.

Most people would be happy with the original recording as it was - it was in pretty good condition apart from a few vinyl scratches and pops (most of which I hope I caught and removed). But with some EQing and a sprinkling of some studio magic, its improved it in a big way - more space, improved bass and...well  "oomph" really! It sounds really excellent now; I was very pleased with how this one turned out.

The show is available for download HERE as one 320 kbps MP3 file.

Or, if you would like to have separate tagged MP3s, or even lossless files in FLAC format, head on over to the Donations tab to see how you can obtain these for a very small donation towards the site costs.

Show 30: Jean Michel Jarre - Live at Pyramids of Giza, Egypt - 31 December 1999

A concert by Jean Michel Jarre, which went by the name of The Twelve Dreams Of The Sun, and performed at the Pyramids of Giza, Egypt; starting on 31 December 1999 and carrying overnight into the new millennium, attended by 120,000 people and broadcast to TV stations around the world.

The concert consisted of two parts, the Main Concert and a Sunrise Concert performed the next morning, and came about when Jarre was contacted by the Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak with a special project to celebrate the dawn of the new Millennium at the foot of the only remaining monument of the original 7 Wonders of the World - the Great Pyramids.

It's the main concert presented here. Originally remastered in 2013, it was only after over 400 downloads (!) someone spotted that Souvenir of China was missing! So I checked and sure enough... My error from when I was blending the 39 separate track files together - 1 got missed off! I don't like making mistakes, so...

I went back to the original files and did it all again. All 39 files blended to 1 file, then carefully EQed and remastered once again. The original recording is in mono, so this time I took the opportunity to do a better simulated stereo remaster as well. So now you have a choice, you can have it in unwidened mono, or you can have the "stereo" version which I think sounds better. Or...you can download both!

November 2016 Complete Remaster Simulated Stereo

Both are available as 1 MP3 file.

Show 63: Kraftwerk - Live at Fairfield Halls, Croydon - 21 September 1975

Their 4th album Autobahn was released late in 1974 and saw them achieve success in the USA, where the album hit the top 10, and also around Europe. With financial support from their American record company, they were able to tour internationally, spending most of 1975 touring, playing dates in the USA, Canada and Europe. For the first time, Kraftwerk featured Wolfgang Flur and the newly recruited Karl Bartos, alongside Ralf Hutter and Florian Schneider; so this tour featured what is often referred to as the "classic lineup", which lasted for 12 years until 1987 when Flur left.

September 1975 saw Kraftwerk playing a number of dates around the UK, including this one. There are a couple of versions of this gig available - the most common one features Autobahn cut short, and at the very end of the set as the encore. I found another inferior sounding recording which purports to be of the same gig with Autobahn complete but with the left and right channels reversed - and Autobahn not as the encore, but as the last track of the main set - the encore being Mitternacht (which really seems to be an extended jam turning into an early Showroom Dummies at one point).

I've looked around the internet and taken the view that the more common bootleg has the tracks wrong - and that Autobahn shouldn't be the last track. So I was able to take the full Autobahn from the inferior recording, fix the sound and the channels, and transplant it into the recording I was already working on - in short, fix it to match the rest of the tracks and present you with the whole gig, repaired and remastered in full stereo.I left the vinyl noise where it appears as its only in parts of the recording and I don't think it's that loud that it spoils anything.

The show is available for download HERE as 1 320 kbps MP3 file.

Show 62 - The Ramones - Live at City Hall Plaza San Francisco - 8 June 1979

A quick request. If you plan on downloading this and putting it on your YouTube channel or your own bootleg page - I don't mind. But a credit to this website where you found it, and a link back to this page would be really appreciated. It helps me gauge which artists are popular - ie more chance of other restorations coming. Don't just steal it, cut out the intro and outro and take the credit. Thanks.

***2023 UPDATE***

This show has now been re-restored from scratch, and improved a lot I think. The sound was pretty thin on the original recording with the drums barely audible. Noise reduction first and then out came the toys; I've been able to beef up the sound rather more now and bring some more of the raw power that was The Ramones playing live. Download it from the link below and let me know what you think!

The new version of this show is available to download or stream HERE as 1 MP3 file.

A band hugely influential on punk rock - The Ramones, in an outdoor concert in San Francisco. Its sobering that of this lineup, only Marky Ramone is still with us;  Johnny, Joey and Dee Dee, all passing away some years ago.

Some parts of this gig at least are available on video on youtube. The sound of those, like the original audio I obtained elsewhere is quite muddy and dull. So this one had tape noise removed and some EQ to bring out the drums a bit and take away the harshness of the sound and try to make things sound a bit fuller overall. In common with many gigs, the sound balance is a bit off at the start but quickly improves as the sound engineer sorted things out on the first song. Anyway! Enjoy it!
