Show 213 - Ray Charles - Live At Palais des Sports Paris - 22 Oct 1961

A quick request. If you plan on downloading this and putting it on your YouTube channel or your own bootleg page - I don't mind. But a credit to this website where you found it and a link back to this page would be really appreciated. It helps me gauge which artists are popular - ie more chance of other restorations coming. Don't just steal it, cut out the intro and outro and take the credit. Thanks.

The Show
The source for this was a 2017 French radio broadcast of the original 1961 mono recording. It sounded like many old radio shows sound - old and not crystal clear like recordings today, with a lot of mid range and not much bottom or top end - but basically in good condition apart from a few clicks and the occasional bit of saturation where the recording levels were a little high - but this is pretty minor and you may not even notice it.

The audience noise (especially at the end) is a little loud and overbearing - it was mixed in pretty high on the original recording. I’ve tried to tame that a little but yeah - the original engineer went a bit crazy with that, drowning out the band, rather The recording itself is of the afternoon performance on the last day of Ray Charles' residency at the venue - his last gig was that very evening, a few hours after this one.

What Was Done
I fixed most of the clicks that I could and then I got to work with EQ and my usual studio toys to reduce the mid range, and increase the lows and highs a little - all of which helped make it a little clearer, and then mastered to make it clearer still, a little more powerful overall, and wider. The result is a really cool, nice and clear, laidback listen; I hope you'll enjoy it.

Show 212 - Karl Bartos - Live At The Palladium, Cologne - 31 May 2000

But a credit to this website where you found it and a link back to this page would be really appreciated. It helps me gauge which artists are popular - ie more chance of other restorations coming. The Show
I think this was originally a TV broadcast of Karl's solo performance at the Electronic Beats festival in Cologne, Germany. Whether it was originally broadcast in stereo or not, I don't know but the only available sources of this recording I found are in mono. It came to me via a collector (and he'll be getting a lossless copy of this restoration as a thank you).

What Was Done
It was rather flat and muddy but otherwise in good condition. So most of the work I did was to clean up the sound and make it more powerful. Making the sound mix clearer, so the drums and synth bassstand out better in particular, and then mastered to make it clearer and more powerful overall, and wider (pseudo stereo, if you like). The result is much clearer than the original recording; I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
